IDK if I'm successful but I try to make them look cute with what I have. What I have is a square pen with some grass, it's usually a bit dead b/c it's right smack in the sun. I usually do this mid day. I go once a week to do pics. The rescue org uses them b/c they pull a lot of these dogs so they dont get put down. The last pic kinda shows better where we work. 1 side of the cage has a few vines and that's it. I try to block it out as best I can.

I've really enjoyed going and doing this once a week. I look forward to it. It's kinda forced me to be more creative and I didnt expect it but it made me be more creative in pp as well, to deal with the light and fence situations

Nice work, I'd adopt the top pup. I should look into doing something like this locally as much as I love dogs.

Feel free to use any photo's that I post for any purpose that I don't find offensive. I'd be honored to find my pics used on that world wide web thingy....

These all look great. I hope it does increase the pups chances of getting adopted.

Adorable...I love the second pup! I'm so glad you do what you do! Isn't it fun when they want to be in your lap while you are trying to take their photos!

Thanks all. Got a new 50 mm and posted some pics in my thread there but it is helping a lot with blurring the ugly background and making them look cute. I've been told the pics are really helping and I love doing it.

And yes I love them jumping on my lap. It's also a given I step in dog doo in that outdoor cage. I dont come home the cleanest but i try to watch the camera. lol

The only one I didn't care for is #4. He looks sick (ill). The others look cute, and adoptable.
Good idea.

Thanks and he likely was sick. Most of them are super skinny. Some have skin conditions. I try not to show it but some dogs are just so frightened and unruly that all I get is a shot of them cowering by the fence.

I should have also said, the people who contacted me to do this are the rescue org. They wanted me to take "before" pics to later show how well the animals do that are adopted. Most of the animals (this one included) get pulled and sent up north for adoption. In some ways I like to show a look of "despair" if all else fails. Later on I'll see pictures of them posted along the journey north and they begin, over teh months, to look healthier and happier each time.

I also give the pics for the shelter here for their FB to get them adopted b/c not all can be rescued. I probably "failed" at my original given task to show the dogs looking "sad" in the shelter but I try to make them look cute if at all possible so they are adopted. I'm really happy to hear thus far that most are pulled and saved. Unfortunately some get put down, usually the ones with heart worms. :(

Good for you and nice job. It looks like you could take a colored flat sheet (not white, it would be to white) or something for a background and hang it from the fence. Then you could get down more on their level (watch where you sit ;D or use a ground cloth) to help with the pictures. Getting them to stay in front of the background might be a challenge but the fence looks like it would be good to hang something from.
