Will a CPL reduce studio reflections?

Last night I was playing around with my new umbrella setup. And needing a subject I chose a guitar. With the poly finish there were pretty harsh glare/reflections on certain parts depending on the angle. Is this something a CPL would effect? I'm struggling to wrap my head around the physics.

(I should just try it but that's not nearly as fast as just asking.)

Only if you have polarizing filters on the lamps to get all the lights in the same wavelength. In short, probably not.

For a guitar, probably (at least most of the reflective surfaces). Polarizers don't do much for metallic surfaces, but work well on paint, plastic, and varnish. You don't need to use polarized light; the polarization happens when the light is reflected off the object.

you can buy polarized foil and put that over your lightsource (don't set it on fire) and combined with a polarizer you then can do quite some magic to remove reflections. Takes some playing with, but works.

Otherwise it probably mostly depends on the angle of your light and subject to the camera.
