I am looking for a budget (<100) tripod that can extend above 6 feet, any suggestions?

It's more than $100, and this has gone up in price recently, but still a great deal:

It is heavy-ish, but sturdy, functional and cheap. You can get this with the pan/tilt head now and then upgrade the head later.

Ditto on the Manfrotto 294A3 (which is taller than the 293 variant). I'm pretty sure it's as tall as my previous 055ProB, and very sturdy.

I was looking at the manfrotto mt294a3 but it is only 169cm/5.5feet tall, are we talking about this one here?

The tripod has to extend above 6', before you add the height of the head and the camera and allow for your eye being several inches lower than your actual height? The ball head and an ungripped camera body will easily add 6" to the overall height of your rig.

Jon,

I was going to ask that but I took a look at Kenwood's gear list and figured he must know that. There has to be a valid reason why he needs a tripod over 6'... unless he meant, including the head and anything else he'd add like a leveling base, etc.

On the other hand, I guess I shouldn't make assumptions.

I try not to. Sometimes the obvious question gets that extra bit of information that can resolve the problem quickly and easily. Of course there are also the times when it just amounts to some extra typing. :{)#

Tall and Cheap sounds like a winning combination too throw a hundred bucks away

Sturdy and tall is the Induro 8mm 413 tripod sales for about 215 bucks.

The Slik 700 has great reviews. Only issue is it weighs in at a hefty 11lbs. Not ideal for backpacking but may suit the OP' s needs. I am also looking but I need one half that weight for long hikes.

I have a Slik 700 that is over 10 years old, still going strong.

Thoroughly reccomended, although they are bloody heavy - and a bit flimsy for anything over 70-200 sized (will hold the bigger lenses fine, just with a bit of flex, which is irritating (especially when you have a 600 f4 and a teleconverter, and the flex puts your subject out of frame)

I should add I'm 6'6" and it's well and truly tall enough too
