It's funny, but I bet you could make one that is just as withering about wedding photographers as well. I shoot about 60 weddings a year, and I hardly ever have unreasonable brides. There are so many scheming, obtuse, conniving and narcissistic wedding photographers out there I'm not at all surprised some brides are suspicious and want lots of details and assurances before the big day.

Would be interesting to watch one from the client's perspective. I have little idea what other photographers do during an initial discussion with prospective clients, in terms of off putting statements and such. I have however, had a few prospectives book the day prior to our consultation (or so they say), thus cancelling the need to meet. I just wonder what kind of deal the other photographer offered, and would I really want clients like that.

I get quite a few who book without any prior meeting other than 10 mins on the phone. I also get ones who just books straight out with no prior contact at all.

Transparent information on a website is often all that is needed.

Bingo. I have my availability schedule, pricing and a ton of images on the site for peopel to see. More often than not the meeting is a formality - my client's have usually made up their mind. Saves me time and trouble, and I think it's the more ethical way to do business.

The problem as I see it is that lots of photographers deliberately withold info, then try to up-sell at the meeting. Some deliberately withold key info even at the meeting, and then only deliver low-res images, or proofs, forcing clients to then fork out more money for high-res, prints, etc etc.

You'd have to be naive not to check these things out prior to booking, but that doesn't make the practice any less shady.

I keep adding to it. The more information that is on the site the better I find. I reckon over the last few years having comprehensive information on the website has saved me over two weeks a year in time not being wasted on speculative enquiries. These days I may only get 3-4 enquires a month but that is all I need if around 70% of them then book.
