Lens firmware??

I keep on reading stuff about lens firmware.. I didn't even know lenses had Firmware
So, how do up update/flash a lens to the latest firmware..??

i think it's mainly only with the newer sigma lenses(Art,Sport,Conte​mporary)...although i could be wrong

actually, i just remembered i think there might have been one with the 40mm pancake...either way, i don't think you need to worry about it...

I believe some Sigma have an usb port. Anything else you would have to send in for service, but I doubt it's worth it. Never heard of anyone doing that.

I think the Sigma might offer special settings for different uses down the road?

A bunch(I think all of the mkii primes) of the current big white Canon supertelephots had a firmware update, they require sending the lens in.

Sigma has also had some recent firmware updates for the new A/C/S line of lenses which can be user updated via the optional USB dock.

The only other firmware updates I'm aware of were for some older Sigma lenses which required sending the lens and actually required the chip to be change. I'm sure there could be more.

There is one for the 40mm Pancake, apparently sorts an issue if you push the lens closed.
Check your serial no if there are some digits in it it needs it. But you either need a 5D3 or a 1Dx to do it yourself or need to send it in.
