quick control wheel on 40d help!

hi every one! new to photography and this forum. I just got a 40d and love it so far but i got me a problem. id like to set the quick controls wheel thing to adjust shutter speed instead of aperture.the little rubber wheel up front is starting to wear out and id adjust shutter alot more that aperture.
i have tried to search on here as well as uncle google to no avail. can someone help me out pleae it would be much appericated!

Check the manual, if you don't have it then you can download from Canon's website.

I am not certain about the 40D in particular, but many Canon cameras that have both the main and rear control wheels have a Custom Function that allows you to swap the function of those wheels.

However, as you become more experienced, I bet you find yourself adjusting the aperture a lot more than the shutter speed. In general, aperture effects depth of field that's often more important to the "look" of your images... While shutter speed just falls where it will, so long as it's high enough to stop action and make for a steady shot (and a lot of the time you would adjust to get adequate shutter speed by changing ISO, as much as by setting the shutter speed itself).

Don't think that this is possible on the 40D.

i did download the manual for it as well and i did not see it mentioned anywhere. oh well ill make do just dont want that front wheel to stop working and have no way to adjust shutter speed.

thanks!:p is there a place for beginners to post pictures and what not? some constructive criticism would be awesome to have to help me improve. ive never really shared many of my pictures besides all on a few flicker groups.
