Third senior shoot ever.
Was really rusty with this one but she was super easy to work with.

That last one is really interesting.

Like #5 - bit of angst in the pic that works great with the rest of the set.

While I like the overcast light, improvements need to be made with your posing/cropping.

#1 Square to the camera/ low angle puts more weight on this pretty girl.

#2 I like, however I would have brought her chin up alittle more and moved her nose towards the ground, plus I would have taken the time to clean up the foliage around her face.

#3 Same foliage problem.

#4 Nice pose, you needed to be closer though, push the legs out more and drop the knees more, right now we're looking up her dress.

#5 Not very flattering. Doesn't seem to be sharp, raccoon eyes.

#6 Way to much space around her, square to the camera. Turn the body away from the light and then ask that the subject turn the nose towards the light giving you a better lighting ratio. Background elements are distracting and running thru the head.

#7 I like this one, nice light in the eyes, however it is pretty flat lighting wise, up the contrast in photoshop. The ear sticking out is a distraction and so are the stray hairs.

#8 Fun. I feel there is to much space on the bottom. Lighten her skin tones some, darken the background and blink out the stray hairs.

Wow. Thanks so much. This is exactly what I was looking for.

I've struggled with posing for a while, and these tips are much appreciated. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for my next shoot.

Your very welcomed Andrew. One of the best ways to learn is to learn from the best, check out my friend Fuzzy: http://www.duenkel.com/ (external link) He is a master at lighting and posing HS Seniors.

I noticed your in Portland, I use to live in Vancouver and started my photographers path at Clark College.
My friend Master Portrait Photographer Darton Drake is moving to Portland as I type from Chicago. I'd highly recommend taking one of his classes if you have the chance. Both Darton and Fuzzy do sell educational material if your interested.

Best regards, Ernst
