Anybody have any current information on Acadia? Been planning a trip there for a year, only to have this happen a week before my departure.

Thanks.
John

Unfortunately it's closed (all national parks are). Hopefully you can find some nice alternatives in the area.

Thanks for responding, Katherine. I had heard the Loop Road was closed; was hoping someone might know if any other areas of the park might be open. I hope they get this settled soon.

Thanks again.
John

John,

I'm sorry that your trip has been affected by the shutdown. Unfortunately, mine has too. I was going to Yosemite. I'll just spend time on the eastern side of the Sierras instead. Fortunately, there are endless opportunities in the region I now live.

Hopefully this will end soon. If it does, I would think the National Parks would open back up within a day or two at most.

Best of luck,
Bryan

When you get to Bar Harbor, look into ferry trips to some of the neighboring islands. There is plenty to still see in that area. I do love Acadia but the beauty is the heights looking down on the coast, lots of that in other areas right around there. Plus a Down Easterner meal is the best.

There is a land bridge that forms right in the middle of the harbor off of Bar Harbor when the tide is out and you can walk right over to the island off shore. Near dusk you can get some amazing photos from that spot.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help. The closure sure has made me give second thought to this trip.

I've been in Bar Harbor since last Saturday ,I rented a house and was locked in to going . People are parking on the side of the roads and walking into the park at various points. I've been to otter cliffs ,thunder hole, eagle lake carriage road area and several other places. The weather has been great and the many folks are walking around with tripods in tow. This morning at first light I was at Eagle Lake and it was stunning . To be honest if the weather is good you will get plenty of great shots .People are going into the park and nobody has been kicked out .If your a hiker you can pretty much go where you want some hikes are easy but others are a haul like Jordan Pond and Cadillac Mountain
I talked to Ranger yesterday he told me that only four of them are on duty at a time and people getting hurt is a real issue if you go be carefull response to an emergency won't be as quick .

Thank you for the update. I just talked to people last night who told me just as you said . No cars but bikes and hikers were not hassled. Thanks again.

John,

This is great news. I hope you still go on your trip, it sounds like you can still enjoy some great photography.

I wouldn't want these conditions to change for you, but I find it disturbing that in some National Parks you're able to walk in or bike, whereas in other National Parks, they want to fine you $100 or arrest you. This inconsistency really bothers me.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip and make some great photographs.

Bryan

I know what you mean John. It's a real shame. On the bright side, it looks like the area you've been planning on traveling to is still in business as far as photography is concerned. Lots to shoot in the area, and the park is still somewhat open. I bet you'll have a great time.

Thats just it . I wont enjoy myself if i know i CAN be ARRESTED or fined. Maybe it wont happen but do i really want to have that in the back of my mind, all day, every day . For me that takes a lot of the fun away.

Thanks john
