I know that I can remove noise with Photoshop, but there are other programs who also do this, but much better. One that I've heard about is Topaz DeNoise, which is actually a Plug-in for Photoshop. However, it's very expensive - 80$.

Is there any other recommended and cheaper program? maybe even a free one?

TIA

You mention Photoshop -- do you have it?

Yes.

I'm looking for a standalone program specifically for noise removal.

Well, I don't know about Noise Reduction in the "main" Photoshop editor, but the Noise Reduction in Camera Raw has a good reputation!

denoise is one (I think that's the name) and noise ninja is pretty good too. An other great one is Dfine from Nik software. I'm pretty sure thy all offer a free trial, check them out and play.

Depends on which PS you have. I've found a great improvement in the NR in ACR7.x (CS6). I've used Topaz Denoise in the past, but rarely use it now.

You might take a look at Neat Image if you don't like the NR in ACR.

The top-rated NR programs will all come at a cost!
