As some of you may have noticed, I've been rummaging through some old photos lately. I came across this one that I thought I'd see what I could do with it. This photo of my wife and I was taken in 1973 at my 10 year High School class reunion. You would have to see my graduation photo to understand but I was voted the most changed since high school. :D

The before image straight from the scanner:

The after edit image...and yes, I was after a painted look. Back then, a lot of photos were hand tinted.

I don't know Doc. Your's don't look tinted. Tinting preserves the details. And the eyes look scary. I'd tone down the eyes quite a bit.
I can imagine your HS photo was probably nerdy - am I right?

Original looks so much better to me, but the new one has better contrast.

Interesting that no one seems to care for the 'painterly' look. Oh well, it was fun playing with the image anyway.

Qbx, not only was the photo nerdy, I was nerdy...or at least a skinny, late bloomer. :D 10 years later I was just getting into my prime, had gained 30 lbs and hid most of my face behind long hair and a beard. At the reunion, all those jocks from school were getting pot bellied and bald. ;)

Eyes didn't do it for me either. For what it's worth.

Sorry about the eyes but I guess my eyes ARE scary. Here's a shot of me taken two years later with nothing done to the photo other than noise reduction. I've been told that I have "intense" eyes.

(I could also show another photo of my wife and she has that 'far away stare' in that one too)

You have more to clean up. Her left shoulder and left inside elbow still have photo degradation. Also, now that it is digital, clone out what ever is protruding from her left bicep.

I actually like that painted version....but as others have mentioned, those EYES lol I'd be interested to see what it would look like with the eyes darkened a bit, and perhaps a very, very light shade of grey added to the white to make them look less artificial. Regardless, that's a great nostalgic pic to have in your possession.
