Hello everyone, I'm in somewhat of a major dilemma. I want to know should I purchase a 24-70 mk 1 with a sigma 35 1.4, or just a 24-70 mk ii. I shoot mostly portraits and will like to get into fashion. I already have a 70-200 and a old manual nikon 50 1.4 with an adapter.I shoot with a 5d mkii, Im nervous of buying a new lens because I've read somewhere that the new 24-700 would be useless on a outdated 5d mk ii

I read that on some blog that it wouldn't be as good on a 5d mkii because of slow focusing

I have a 9 year old 24-70 mk I that works just fine on my 5DII. I don't know how much faith I'd put in that blog....

It might not focus as well as 5DIII, but its hardly useless. This isnt really a sports lens regardless.

Does speed of focusing matter that much for portraits and fashion shoots?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Maybe if they do a runway sprint, but otherwise not so much.

Thats more of a personal decision. For me it would be as I dont much like 35 or 50. But if those are your go to lengths then it might be.

If you have that kind of budget, I would go for Sigma 85mm f1.4, or 85L if you can afford it.

i own the II and have owned all the other lenses you mention except for 50L. of that group the II is the only lens that interests me -- that's why i own it.

So another question how do you feel about the 85 1.2 mk ii and 135 combo instead of 70-200 mkii

i really like the zoom but i just don't need it. the primes are the very best too but since i travel i have no use for them, or i should say they aren't worth carrying for me. i use the 24-70L II and 70-300L for portraits and everything else but my subjects are probably a little different than yours :D.

seriously it comes down to preference and you'll have to figure out what works best for you.
