The first is obviously a scam since the picture tells you circumvent the normal purchasing system. The second is a "Just Launched" seller, which is something you should always avoid.

I'm kind of surprised by this, I'd never really thought of being careful on amazon before, thought I can't imagine what the scam is.

Also normally a scam has Too good to be true pricing. 33% off for used is pretty ordinary.

33% off for a camera model that just came out is definitely not ordinary.

It's a scam.

Go back and look now. That AudioSystemsPlus has several listed way higher now but still with the "Contact Me First" image. That's BS. Amazon need to crack down on that crap.

that is too good to be true pricing. a 33% discount on a newly released camera is unheard of.

I guess I'm not the expert. I would understand that for new but for "used", no warranty, second hand electronics, I say 33 is nothing special.

Used photography equipment (especially camera bodies) don't drop radically in price until they're superseded by a couple of new models.

Interesting. What percentage is considered "normal" for a used camera? I understand lenses holding value as they don't become technically outdated.

It's tough to pinpoint, but for a current model in a camera body, such as a Canon 7D, it's not uncommon for it to sell for 20% cheaper then new if the body is in good condition. As for a newly-released model such as the 70D, used is probably only $100-$125 less then new, so perhaps 8-10%.

Way too early for significant discounts on the 70D. Lower end Rebels like the T-series will drop in price fairly quickly because the newer model comes out within months. But the xxD line isn't ujpdated nearly as often, so the price drops are much slower. The 60D just dropped within the last year when the 70D rumors became rampant.

Then there are "price wars" when a superseded model, like the 5D MkII, will sell for very short money for a limited time. The Mk II was available for around $1400 last spring for a short time, then went back to its current price closer to $1800.

I beg to differ. Based on what I've observed, especially the last two Canon DSLRs--5D Mark III and 6D, the prices peaked at the lowest by at least 25% of the retail price in about 3-4 months of the first shipment date. (5D3 for $2,600 and $2,500 from an authorized dealer and grey market, respectively. 6D for $1,500 from a grey market and $6D + 24-105L for $2,000 from an authorized dealer.)

That said, it's been just a little over a month since the first shipment of 70D. The lowest is about $70 price drop, but it's been in the printer rebate since the beginning of September.

Again not talking about new prices.

7D at B&H is $1,499. Refurb is $1019 (with a 1 year warranty). Ebay sold listings, average in the $700-$800. That's quite a bit more than 20%.

Obviously this is moot regarding the 70D as anyone wanting to sell is likely still within a return period. But I'm more discussing the general New vs Refurb vs Used.
