I am currently on a project where I need to shoot several photos over a 650 acre construction / environmentaly sensitive area? I bought the GP-E2 in order to go back to the same location and reproduce the same shot over the duration of the project. Though I can see the data using Lightroom 5, I would also like to pull the data out to use in a spreadshhet the location and my notes regarding any given shot. Is there a way to pull long/lat, compass heading, Date, and altitude in some form of text file which I could import into Excel??

Yes, but. You can use GeoTag (external link) to open the photos, then copy the location data fields for all of them and paste the results into Excel (minus the column headings). It won't give you notes you may have in the comments fields.

However, for going back to the same spot (implied by your wording), the GP-E2 will be much less useful than would a handheld GPS where you could establish each survey point as a waypoint (assuming that staking the specific points isn't practical).

Further, the GP-E2 isn't as accurate, in my experience, as a modern handheld unit. For instance, the Garmin eTrex 20 and eTrex 30 use Glonass as well as NavStar satellite signals and support WAAS/EGNOS for better accuracy. About the only thing the GP-E2 will give you that a hand-held won't is the direction in which you took the photo.

Thanks Jon .... I will look into geotag and let you know if it covers my needs. Exact location isn't critical, it doesn't have to be pinpoint, but getting the same shot over time is most important for progress reports.
