Bassnectar 10.5.13

Wow this show was nuts. Sold out crowd and the hottest, sweatiest show I've ever attended. The crowd was 6,500 but the audio guy said the soundsystem Bassnectar brought along was designed for a 20,000-30,000 capacity venue. Ears were fine afterwards but I took a nasty spill off a loading dock while leaving and hurt my elbow + ribs pretty bad. No broken bones but I'm still hurting here. Good news is that I managed to protect my gear while falling, so nothing got damaged (besides me).

Sorry about the spill mate. Glad you seem to be ok. These are cool pictures, but all seem very far away. Even close up with a fisheye seems far away. Woud've liked to see more of the performer's face / emotions.

Awesome shots!! I was at that show! It was insane and very very hot.

Yeah, that's the only thing I didn't like about shooting the show. Even with a 70-200, I still couldn't manage to get close enough for some tighter shots. I only got shot #2 because I'm 6'6" and managed to stretch & jump for that one. I"m afraid if I even had a 300mm, it still wouldn't have been close enough.

Were you shooting this professionally? Like as a gig? I assumed so since normal concert goers wouldn't be trying to get to so many different angles with a 70-200 attached. Moving through that teenage pit of sweat, glow sticks, Bob Dylan sunglasses must have been fun haha.

Yeah, it was a work gig. I was allowed to shoot 3 songs from the pit but since the stage & podium was so high, that was pretty useless aside from the few shots that I got like in #2. I've shot enough EDM shows to know without stage access or a huge zoom, you aren't going to get many usable closeup shots. So I just concentrated on getting some good looking wide shots with lots of pretty lights.

Great shots! Even without seeing the performer up close you really capture the energy of the show. The kids these days sure do love themselves some Bassnectar (we really need a "get off my lawn" crotchety old man smilie on this forum ). His set at Wakarusa 2011 was nuts!

So I'm not sure if everyone knows about this, but those lasers can destroy your sensors if they hit them directly Just a friendly reminder to be careful! I love the wider images just because it feels like there were thousands and thousands...looks like 50k but was only 6k ;p

no lasers in any of the shots i saw.

i think for this sort of show, the wide shots work best. there are only so many shots of a guy standing behind a laptop, playing tetris.

Nice shots man, I remember seeing bassnectar back in 04, athens georgia, when he was pretty unknown along the east coast, a crowd of a whoping 65 people filled the place I was in lol. I have actually kept up with his stage manager for several years and it is amazing how far this guy has gone. Same with pretty lights, they were in the right place at the right time I suppose. I don't know if I could stomach carrying a couple grand worth of camera and lens around a crowd of doped up hippies, kudos to you!
