Quick set of a cross country meet I covered today. My GF's little brother runs, so I promised to grab my camera one of these days to get photos for the team (turns out it was today).

C&C welcome. I always struggle getting anything really compelling while covering cross country / running, so any tips you have are welcome. I decided to throw the set into B&W to spice it up (I really liked #1 in BW, so I figured I'd do the whole set), although definitely having second thoughts since we have really beautiful fall foliage this time of year in Maine... *Sigh*

I like the emotion in #1 and the separation in #5. My best luck with running thus far has been hang around just past a finish line and try to get the emotional responses of the athletes.

I'm not sure why you'd convert to B&W?

Yeah, I would love to see the color versions. Autumn in Maine is beautiful; take advantage of that color.

I love the black white, gives a gritty, tough, emotional feel to them. Good set.

I agree. #1 is my favorite...love the emotion..and the BW...just kind of accentuates that emotion, IMO.

Fair enough, I guess I didn't have a real good reason either. I really liked #1 in B&W so I tried to stretch the entire set to B&W as well. I guess I just had a 'meh' set in color and the conversion didn't really work either.

Here are a couple in color. I was at ISO 6400 for the trail shot, so that really killed a lot of the nice autumn colors. I'll hopefully be at another track meet this week, so I'm going to be a little more diligent in finding backgrounds and places to shoot that will make for a stronger 'autumn' set.

B&W works really nicely for this set.

To me these colors look much better. 7 and 8 are wonderful shots and you can still add some gritty feel to #6 in color.

I'm going to add my vote for the B&W. The conversions work nicely for these.
