Just wondered if anyone knew of any copies of the hood (EW-72) were around?

Here in the UK, the actual EW-72 lens hood is £50! Which is silly money to be honest. A 3rd party one is the way to go I feel...but can not seem to find one.

AFAIK, there isn't one yet. The 35/2 IS is one of the newest Canon lenses... I just don't think anyone has made a clone of the hood for it yet. I'm sure someone will eventually.

The 28/2.8 IS and 24/2.8 IS lenses were introduced a little before the 35/2 IS, and there is now a Vello hood for those (both use the same EW-65B hood), that sells for about 1/3 the price of the Canon OEM hood. So I'm guessing it will just be a matter of time until they make one for the 35/2 IS, too.

There's big money in offering hoods for Canon lenses are more reasonable prices than Canon charges for something that should be included with a lens anyway.

I have the new EF 28 IS USM.
The EW-65II "clip-on" style lens hood that was the standard on the old EF 28 actually fits the new EF 28 IS version... so that's all I use.

I assume the same would be true for the new/old EF 35

The hood on the old 35 is much smaller in diameter than the new 35F2 IS. The design is also different. No way the old hood would fit on the new lens.

I was lucky, I bought mine secondhand and it came with the Canon hood. I certainly wouldn't have paid £50 for one!

The EW-65 hood barely hangs onto the lenses it was designed for. How well does it stay on the EF 28mm 2.8 IS ?

Rock solid.
I can pick the 28mm up while it's attached to the 60D by holding just the lens hood... as long as I don't squeeze the clips on the hood it's not likely to move or come off.

Here is the old EW-65II on the new EF 28 IS USM

Very interesting. I doubt an EW-65 would stay on an EF 28mm 2.8 if you picked it up that way.
