The more I think about it the more I think the heck with the standard photography rules. Art is subjective after all. Ya that last pic is a weird angle when you take note of the slimming shoulders and arms but the hair & eyes just bark look at me. That's my fav.

Haha! Thanks. If only I had framed it better or had her move her hand so I didn't cut off her fingers.

Using a wide angle for portraits isn't breaking some rule. I was the first to comment about it and I do it all the time. In fact, I used it last weekend.

I still wouldn't recommend using this technique for senior portraits or other beauty shots for the reasons I mentioned above. Because this one is straight on, it makes him look like he has a much bigger nose than he does.

Also, if you use WA lenses for portraits, try and put the face near the center, or else it will give them cone heads. Not the most drastic example, but you can see a little cone heading on the guy on the left. Also look at his arm... see how fat it looks? This is due to distortion from the lens.

This is great, thanks so much! I see what you're saying. I assume these were taking with your 35mm?

#1 and #2 are my favorites.
I really love the whole feel of #1 though...it works for me. Good job!

Thanks! I think number 1 is my favorite as well even if it is a bit "trendy." It was also the favorite of my model so I guess that's all that matters.

Nice set,

in number 1, i would have framed her more to the left and with less headroom.

2. looks a touch soft... Maybe a result of shooting fully wide open?

3, nice image, lovely composition and look.

4. your sharpest image, but the angle is very unflattering... Alao look out for cutting off fingers/hands ect..

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll take them into consideration for the future!

Number two was shot at f/2.8 so it wasn't wide open (f/2.0) but still pretty wide. May be a little soft though. To be honest, I hadn't noticed it being soft, but compared to some others I took, probably is. I was running out of daylight on that shot and I probably just rushed it.

Number four I should probably just remove. :) Bad angle and I cut off some fingers. But, I'll hopefully know better for next time. Thanks!
