Do clients like photos included in a package or not?

Pricing is where I'm scratching my head currently. From a client's perspective or someone who is seasoned photographer, what do you find is the most attractive as far as offering x-number of photos with the package or not?

While I think offering say 10 retouched photos are great, some may not want that option for certain type of photography. But if not some may feel that the photographer is charging too much by not offering any digital photos and the clients having to pay extra.

I'm just trying to find a good balance I guess...thoughts?

Packages for what? Weddings? Portraits in a Studio? Senior Shoots?

What you include in a package and how you price it is obviously highly dependent on what you are actually doing.

Personally with portrait stuff I supply digitals with every package... all edited (I can't honestly call it retouching as I don't do skin smoothing etc). I sell my packages at prices which make doing the shoots worth my while. I don't put a number on how many images people will get either.

If you're talking about wedding packages, it really depends on you and the product & service you are delivering.

If you believe your work alone is worth $2000 to shoot a wedding, then clients will pay $2000 to book you. If you don't feel confident in your pricing packages -say you're just starting out, adding retouched photos or photo prints are a great way to seal the deal with clients.

If you are contacted for booking and they are inquiring about your packages, I would meet with them to talk over pricing, get a feel of their budget and expectations, then throw in prints or retouched images to seal the deal.

I tend to over think things but I'm hoping to keep the retouching simple (blemishes, random pimples, etc).

I don't think I'm confident with my work at all to begin with lol. I know it's not nearly a pro grade but shooting for the last 15 years it can't be that bad either. I'll probably have to include the photos and keep the pricing slightly lower if not average of all the work I've seen so far.
