The fall sun sets pretty early and never gets very high in the sky here now.
I took these this afternoon on my deck, and dealt as best i could with the side lighting. In a few shots I felt the soft angled light really worked for the images....

Gorgeous shots Mike! I like the look in # 3. I can't wait for them to return here in a little over two weeks.

Excellent series Mike, and I'd agree that the side lighting can do wonders for bringing out the beautiful textures of these feathers.
Your 1st image is a phenomenal example of the beauty of side lighting, while I'll agree with Brad that the head tilt of curiosity of #3 adds great personality to the image. Well done, and I too shall await their arrival.

Very nice, Mike; you've been getting some great shots lately. And you are correct in that we've lost a lot of daylight already.

i'm finding that i actually get many more hours of decent sun now than in summertime. the sun gets way too high and bright too fast in the summer, and its getting to the point(not quite yet) where i can get nicely lit shots all day, despite fewer actual daylight hours.

btw, nice shots.

Funny I was thinking the same thing today, "Golden Hour" lasts longer and even at midday the light is softened. Makes for nice all day shooting...!
