I've noticed!! :D Lots of great stuff here. Planes and trains added in on the mix and it's clear we all have the same sickness. We all love the smell of petrol in the morning!

Photography has to be considered an important part of restoration. We must document everything from how everything fit before we start tearing it apart to what was done from start to finish, both for the owner & insurance purposes. Because I also do insurance appraisals I'm able to justify buying a good camera, lens & flash with business money for the purpose.

A true story as told by one of my brothers clients; He had a gorgeous strip & show 68 Plymouth GTX that was involved in a traffic accident that was totally the other persons fault and admitted to. The GTX guy goes to the other guys insurance company that their client has already admitted fault to collect a check for repair. The insurance guy says the car was only worth about $2500 to begin with, so here's a check for that amount because we consider it totaled. The GTX guy says if you want to call it totaled, fine, but here's a written appraisal for $xxxxx, and that is what you will pay. The insurance guy starts back peddling by stating that we had better put it in the body shop for repair. This is how it ended up in my brothers shop 20 some years ago.

Very believable story & I've had to help get a fair settlement for a customer where they tried the same thing. After getting it sorted out I reconstructed her Corvette for an agreed price that was more than double the initial offering & she was supposed to surrender the car for that token pay out. I've also had to convince 1 insurance company that there's a big difference between a Bonneville convertible & one with a very rare engine / trans package that was factory installed.

It's a 68 428 SD with a Muncie 4 speed which has a longer tail shaft than any Muncie I've ever seen & I've been in the trade since 67 & made many trips to Carlisle. According to the documentation the owner had it's one of 16 produced and only 3 are known to exist now. Going from memory Pontiac only installed just under 700 4 speeds in the entire Bonneville line that year & the majority of them went to NASCAR teams. The car in question came from Richmond Va so it may have first started life serving as the go-get-it car for a team.

Sorry! I only have one other pic that turned out usable of that Vette. I'm processing it now. I'll add it to this thread once I'm finished.
