to those who have used the former, is there any real-world difference in speed (given the same class/model used)? theoretically speaking, the microsd card would be slower.. but would it make any difference in a 6d?

Then I would suggest you use an SD card in camera and transfer them to the microSD card for the smartphone. You won't need a very large micro card since you should probably downsize the images anyway for the smartphone. There is a sizeable group of people that have experienced issues using an adaptor, enough that I would caution it isn't worth the risk.
