I spent last week in Red River, NM and, prior to the visit, I planned to shoot the Milky Way. Living in Houston, TX, I don't waste my time trying to get the Milky Way here, but with the trip coming up, I spent a lot of time on this forum getting ideas of how to photograph and then process the photographs. I was blessed with altitude (~8,900 ft), cold air, no clouds, no moon and very little light pollution.

So, here is my first attempt. I'm pretty happy with it, but it seems like I could do more with PP.

Any CC or processing suggestions are very welcome.

Wish I could help with either of your requests Tim, but I'm sure those that can will come along with some suggestions.

Just wanted to say I really like the shot. Looks like there's a distant fire and the MW is a smoke plume rising to dissipate out the top of the frame.
