I'm not very good with creative or "artsy" shots, but I took this yesterday and thought it was kinda neat. Not quite sure if it works or not though. What do you guys think, does it do anything for you or would you scrap it? All opinions welcome, thanks!

I think it has potential, but I think it would be more appealing in B&W with a high contrast.

This is what I had envisioned.

I'm thinking that if you get more of an angle on the wire and follow the fence line off into the distance, it might be more artsy? ;)

Thanks, that does look pretty good. Do you think it takes away from the dreary, rainy day feel I was going for though?

Good idea, thank you! I'll keep that in mind for next time.

This edit really retains the dreariness, and even enhances it.

That looks pretty good, thanks! Did you just lower the saturation?

I put a high pass filter on it, lowered the saturation, tweaked the brightness up a bit, and upped the contrast.

Good to know, thank you! The more I look at your version the more I like it. You can even kind of make out the little whisps of spiderweb below the barbed wire in your edit.

There's any number of things you can do to an image if you started off with a quality file. In focus, exposure good (nothing blown out), interesting perspective and subject matter, etc. A few quick slider adjustments in LR5 is about it for this.

Thanks ChunkyDA, I really like the look of that as well. I don't have LR at the moment but hoping to get it soon.

I think black and white might go well with this image. You could also add some fog to the background and crop to place strong emphasis on just the barbed wire.
