Beached Whale Calf (Carcass Removal)

Our local beaches were closed today due to an increased threat from sharks on account of a dead whale calf being washed up towards one of the beaches. I popped down to try to get a photographic account of the removal of the whale as its not something you see every day.

The whale calf did have an array of bites across its body (can been seen below), but whether that's what sealed its demise I don't know.

Wow, that's quite the documentation. I didn't really get a true sense of scale until I saw the one where they are loading it into the trailer.

Good shots, it's a pity to see a dead one so young though. As for the bites, whether they were predatory or scavenging bites it looks like there were definitely some good sized sharks on it.

Thank you both. This was actually the second dead whale to be washed up along pretty much the same stretch if beach. It was some operation to remove it.

I was actually looking to go out on the kayak that day as the weather was glorious but the shark warnings and closed beaches stopped that. I am always conscious of sharks when at sea in the yak, perhaps more so than many, thanks to a certain film.

Where are they going to find a toilet big enough to flush that??????? Lol
