I have been hired to take headshots and a group shot for a law office.
I would like to know what lighting equipment I will need and if you think another lens would be necessary. My current equipment:
Canon 60D
50 1.8
85 1.8
100 1.8 - won't be using this I'm sure

I also have a cheap single, constant output light with a octagonal softbox.

Thanks in advance.

Katie

A few questions to ask yourself Katie:
Is it going indoor or outdoor?
How big is the office? How many people in the largest group? Would the widest 50mm lens be wide enough?
What if 60D and/or the (only) light stop working on the spot?

Lighting: at least a couple speedlites and shoot through umbrella.

It's going to be indoor with the group shoot outdoors. I am not sure on how big the office is, but I will get those dimensions as soon as I can.
The funds are not there for a back-up body, but I am looking for alternative lighting so I don't need to use the light. I will look into renting some speedlights, thank you.

Look up Yongnuo brand Katie. It's great product to pick up without breaking your bank. They have both flashes and triggers.

The 85 will be great for this. Although I'm not so sure why you are so quick to discount the 100. There are two keys here. A long enough lens (to give you the working distance) to prevent perspective distortion, and proper lighting. Ideally you would have a 3 light kit available to you (Key, fill, and background separation light). Keep the lighting relatively flat as corporate headshots get duplicated in a lot of way some of which dont take well to creative shadows.
