Can anyone tell me if shadows on the subjects are acceptable for press inclusion?

The reason why I ask is because my flash gun suffered a glitch during an event and for some reason didn't work

Yikes.

If the pictures are for a newspaper strong facial shadows are a serious problem. Especially if you shot in RAW you might be able to use some area exposure correction.

Yeah I know, since I'm working as a photojournalist, the event was movie premieres, there were none that had facial shadows, but just on their clothing

Meh, didn't even think to use the other flash gun

Anyway, someone told me they sold a photo with shadows, but the shadows wasn't on the face

Shadows for newspapers would look horrible. Imagine it, try getting an external flash.
