I tried to sell my camera yesterday to someone, I don't know if he was at my house just too make me loose time(lower price), cause at one point he argued that my "mirror" was scratched and he was not interested anymore.
I told him that it was'nt a big issue, and I was willing to give him a full day of trial with the camera.
This camera is in perfect condition apart from this minor issue.
It has apprx 18.000 pictures taken, no scratches.I took good care of this camera.
Sensor is perfect.

So where do I get another mirror?
I will try Canon, but I will have to wait if they want me to ship it to the repair dept.

If the mirror is truly scratched, then yes you will need to send to Canon or drop it off with an independent camera repair shop for replacement.

Is it possible it only needs cleaning... Perhaps it's just a smudge on the mirror? If so, I recommend DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN IT YOURSELF. The mirror is extremely delicate... It's front-surfaced and the surface is aluminum and easily damaged. I also don't recommend you try to replace the mirror yourself.

I would assume the camera is out of warranty. That being the case, if there is one nearby there would be no harm taking it to a local, independent repair shop for work instead of sending it off to Canon. I would suggest calling local pro photographers to find out if they can recommend a good, local repairer.

(Note: if it were a Nikon, you'd be SOL. Nikon has a policy of no longer selling replacement parts to independent repairers, forcing everyone to use only their own service dept. There's no such problem with Canon... Literally anyone can call them and order a part.)

You are correct that a mark or scratch on the mirror makes no difference in the camera's ability to take photos. It's merely a nuisance. If you don't want to have a repaired/cleaned yourself, keep looking for a buyer who won't care and expect to have to discount your price a little. Would-be buyers will use it as a negotiating point.

Thanks, I called some big camera store in Montreal and they don't service this kind of problem.
Also I remember a few months ago while changing a lens, the focus screen came out of the camera, maybe I should change that too, but focus is dead on!
I put it back myself.

Thanks

Why bother because this should not affect the pictures. Also, you may simply want to mention the slight imperfection and lower the price a bit and reject all low ball offers.

Yes I could, but I might keep it, for another little while, if people low ball it, its because there is too much on the used market.
Mine has only 18.000 shots taken.

I would not by a body if it had an obvious defect like a scratch inside- it is a sign of lack of care- or changing the lens in a hostile environment. What other damage has the abrasive caused?

This would not be an unreasonable conclusion by a prospective customer.

Get it check by Canon repairer. they will quote before working and it may not be too expensive to make the camera as good as new.

Looking at the parts catalog, the entire mirror-box assembly comes as a complete unit, so Canon don't stock just the mirror itself. It's part number CG2-2316-000 which looks to be around US$200 and probably would take at least a couple of tech hours to replace.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Finally its the focus screen, not the mirror.
I ordered a brand new one.
It will be just as good as a new one.

really?
That is big money.
I noticed the scratched when I purchased my camera from Future shop, someone had returned it and it was a lot lower price wise, but it was in great condition, like new except for that scratched, and a tech told me it was the mirror, so I assumed it was the mirror, but at one point I changed one of my lens, and the focus screen came out, and believe me I did not do it in a rough way, I guess the tray that holds it in place is , not the tray the clip if that tray could be tighter,

Any while I was looking at the mirror, it had no scratch but as I look at the focus screen, their was the culprit.

I checked with B&H and they are apprx $30
I called Canon it is $6 , but they don't have em in stock, so I ordered on ebay for $14 plus shipping, overall $21 is still great.

Yup. I was quite shocked too. Plus they asked me to ship with insurance for the full value of the camera which cost another nearly $200. Then they ship the camera back to me regular mail which cost them about $10. It took roughly a month from me shipping it to me getting it back.

Nice treatment hope they don,t act the same way in Toronto.
