Ventured home to Dartmouth for a delayed Canadian Thanksgiving. While there, I went to Sullivan's Pond to check on the swans... Correction below: snow geese or embden geese?

I have recently picked up a 1D Mk IV, so I am still testing out features to determine what I like best. That said, your comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Well done Gunner Andre excellent exposure on the whites allows for great feather detail. Congrats on the 1D IV as well.

Very nice. I would have thought they were geese if you had not said they were swans!

Thanks. The swans are great birds to photograph as, at least these ones, love to be around people.

Sorry but I believe SGC is right, those are snow geese. Nice captures however.

I appear to be misinformed. From a young age I was told that they are Mute Swans. After some research, I see that mute swans have some black on their bill. More research is making me lean more towards the snow goose. Thanks for the correction.

Still no positive ID? Most Snow Geese also have black on them...so I am curious as to their true identity! No matter what they are, you did a great job photographing them.

Thanks. I didn't have my 150-500 with me, but my 100mm combined with friendly birds allowed for some close shots.

This is where I am a little puzzled. A lot of the snow geese I have found have black tips on their wings. These birds were totally white with orange bill and yellow-orange legs and feet.

Continuing my research from the other day, I may have closed in on a more accurate identity; Embden Geese. Can anyone else confirm this?

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

Nice pics.

They are domestic/embden geese. I believe they came from snows or gray leg geese a long time ago. They are non migratory and are just called park geese around here.

Thanks for the confirmation. I can confirm your statement on nonmigratory. The city used to shelter these geese during the winter. In recent years, they have built huts at the pond, and the geese stay year round.
