A lighting bolt from a far away storm can also be seen lighting up the clouds in the distance. This far north the sun never really dips down past the horizon during summer and is always gently lighting the landscape. The low setting sun wasn't so bright that it over powered the Aurora but was bright enough to illuminate the foreground for my camera to capture.
I found it extremely awe inspiring watching the storm rage on the horizon while at the same time the Aurora peacefully danced over head. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that the best things in life are free.
