Oct 23, 2013 10:36 | #10 Glad this thread is already here. I was gonna ask the same question. I have some older software that I'm worried about. I'm still on CS4 and my printer is an Epson R1900. Anybody know if Mavericks will go back that far? "No matter where you go, there you are" Buckaroo Banzai

If you have an extra external disk floating around, pick up a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner (or super-duper, these days I use Carbon Copy Cloner). Make a full clone of your machine to the external first. Then upgrade. If you find it not working well for you, you can just boot the external disk and restore the clone back to the system disk.

Oct 23, 2013 10:45 | #14 I currently back up to my external using Time Machine. Is that the same idea or would CCC be better still? Thanks for the help. "No matter where you go, there you are" Buckaroo Banzai

Oct 23, 2013 10:51 | #15 CCC or SuperDuper let you create a bootable complete copy of your HD, TimeMachine let's you go back in time. Fine if the machine still works, useless if the machine got completely screwed up. I do both, SuperDuper every once in a while and TM all the time. 40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things
