Action shots new to me, critique needed

I'm not used to shooting fast moving events such as this. Most of my photos are taken in either aperture or shutter priority.

Conditions were 100% gray overcast. I think I should have been in shutter priority to control the action. Although for me, they came out ok but know the pics could be better. What settings should I be at if I was to do this or a similar event in the future?

Good pics though, sorry I don't have more of a critique for you.

You needed a faster shutter speed (you could shoot using a larger aperture or increase your ISO) and considering the subject matter...a telephoto lens.

You'll normally need about twice that shutter speed to stop action, so you could have increased you ISO to 400 and your shutter speed to 1/500 to get the same exposure.
Personally, I like the fact that the shutter speed didn't quite stop the action in these shots. I think the blur from the movement adds to these images.

I would have probably tried to get a little higher to take the shot. It would have given you more of the participants in the shot. I see the aperture was good, but I don't see a lot of anything specifically in focus. I would have probably tried to focus on one subject, like the guy in the red shirt that appears to be having a great time.
But I think for a first attempt, it is not a bad image overall.

I would have bumped the ISO up to 400 and gone for 1/500 at f/8. The shots are ok, but there's enough motion blur that it appears nobody is truly in sharp focus. The 60D has clean files at ISO 400. I'd just park it there most of the time for stuff like this. I did notice you used AF area select mode auto? I don't know how reliable that mode is, but I usually don't trust the camera to tell me what should be focused on. I'd rather use a specific point and prefer centerpoint for action.

Q-Man, the might explain why there really wasn't a specific subject in focus. I like you mention tend to use a single point focus mode. But I also use back button focus so I can get active focusing and choose when to take the shot in relation to the focus.
I just moved to shooting continuous full time. I can still take a single shot, but for action and sports, I think I will be better served being able to fire mutiple shots should the need arise.
