While not my favorite songbird subject, they can be an interesting study at different stages of moulting and aging for illustrating changes for making ID's. This one has a bill color combination that I haven't seen before with such a small remnant of yellow.

Real nice shot Jonathan, they can get pretty aggressive when then form a little gang but they are a tight family bunch too. Not sure what the yellow patch is maybe what's left of junior becoming an adult. I have a gang in the backyard now, fun to watch.

BG, The yellow is a transitional remnant marker from juvenile to adult. I just haven't seen so little showing before. The example below is more common to see on them at this time of year. This younger adult male was with a small group along with the first specimen.

Common ,but joyful sight in winter,as many of our other birds have went South to warmer weather..
