I happen to use the software that my 350D came with to post process RAW: Raw Image Task which opens from ZoomBrowser EX. I find it very simple and straightforward. It's pretty useless if you need dramatic changes, but I think it works, at least for me.

I tried RawShooter, but found it almost too expansive.

Your thoughts on the bundle app for post-processing?

I use it to export my images into PS5. Works for me. Like you said it is pretty easy.

If I have a whole bunch of raw files to process, I use DPP to convert to TIFF and then use PSCS to further edit the image. But there are times when I also use EVU and ACR.

I always use CS2 for raw conversion, because i'm used to its workflow.

Leo, what drives you preference for DPP in this situation?

What is DPP anyway? All these acronyms are throwing me off. :|
I tried using that Adobe RAW image plugin to no avail. Whenever I try to open a .cr2, CS2 doesn't open it and says something in regards to not being able to open the file ty pe. Do I have to convert to dng first before opening in CS2? (i think that's the right extension?

Sounds like you need to update the Camera Raw Plugin. Support for the 350D came with 3.2 so you'd need that or the new 3.3 - your current plugin is probably 3.1

I have 3.3. Should it be able to open .cr2?

You should be able to open them if you have Camera Raw 3.3. You're not trying to open them straight off the camera are you?

Nope, I'm transfering them to my drive first, then opening from there.

First off, DPP is Digital Photo Professional, it's from Canon. Not the prettiest app, but dose a nice job converting raw files. Second, if you have PS CS2, and have installed the ACR 3.3 plugin correctly, cr2 files from your 350d should open fine. I suspect that it was either installed improperly or the downloaded file was corrupt. Open Photoshop CS, and click Help>About Pug-in and look for Camera Raw. Click on that and note what version it is. It should be 3.3. If it isn't, download the latest ACR from Adobe.com, rename whatever Camera Raw file that is there to Camera Raw.8bi_BAKUP, and extract the Camera Raw.8bi file to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats folder. Close any PS windows and restart PS. If you still can't open a cr2 file, contact Adobe support.

Just the fact that I can copy recipes from one image to several others with two clicks of the button so that I don't have to work on each set of images individually. It's more convenience than anything else. I also like the fact that I can use curves to adjust the raw image before conversion (something that ACR 3 also has but I'm still running ACR 2).

STILL Free RSE is pretty good. RSEP is better, but the average PS user probably doesn't need to buy it.

Yup, I tried using RSP once but that was on my old PC which I hardly use now. I'm running a Mac and RSP doesn't run on it.
