I just built a new computer (PC) and am using LR5, and it's doing something really annoying now. whenever I am done with the "develop" tab, I hit CTRL-E, which used to do nothing but open the image in photoshop. the photo would not move on the bottom tab and I knew exactly where I was when I go back to LR. Now it moves the photo to the end of the group I'm working on and adds a second copy of it, a TIFF file, directly next to it.

There must be a setting I have missed that will change this back. I tried searching, but didn't even know what this is called. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I use DPP before transferring to Photoshop. To switch from one to the other is impossible with the Canon RAW file, so DPP creates a TIFF version that I can open in Photoshop. I suspect you are doing the same.

I think you may have changed the sort order in the Library Module. To have it behave like you want make sure its set to "Capture Time" That should work. Maybe. :)

First, what version of PSCS/ACR? Unless you have parallel versions (LR5.2 to ACR8.2) LR will create a tiff or psd.
Second, sort order by capture time puts the tiff at the end of the row. Sort order by name puts it next to the Raw.

I know it has to create TIFF files, i just don't want them to display in lightroom. If I go back and try to edit again, I have to look at the file name to make sure I'm working with the .cr2 file like I want to.

The Tiff shows up in Lightroom, that's how LR is designed to work when you use the "Edit In" function: the tiff is automatically incorporated into the LR Library.

it used to not do that, and it's really annoying. there has to be a setting I can change to make it not put the tiff in my library

If you open the image to edit in PS by using CTRL-E what do you do when your done editing in PS? If you do a SAVE then it will add the TIFF in LR, If you do a SAVE AS and choose a location to save to it will not add the TIFF in LR. But will add the TIFF or PSD or whatever you choose to save wherever you choose to save it. But leave it out of LR.

I always do a "Save As" in photoshop. My issue is as soon as I hit CTRL-E in LR, before PS even finishes opening, it moves the image and adds another.

Hmmm Mine does not work that way? If I CTRL-E an image into PS CC From LR 5.2 it does not add the tiff immediately in LR. Only adds it when I preform the Save from PS.When hitting CTRL-E Do you get the dialogue window that asks you if you want to render using lightroom or does it just open in PS?

Could it be that LR 5 uses camera Raw 8.1 and PS CC is using 8.2 ( as is LR 5.2), Thus having to create a TIFF in LR before PS can edit it? Just guessing. :)

well, it is set to create a tiff rather than a PSD when exporting for editing, would that have anything to do with it? (I'm at work right now, away from my home computer so I can't test this theory until then).

Yes, if you are still on 5.0 update to 5.2. You should anyways, some nasty bugs were swatted.

And you can set a prefix for the tiffs in Preferences that will make it easier to separate the wolves from the sheep. I use the prefix "RGB".

I figured it out. the library was sorted by "latest added" rather than "capture time." changing that back made the pictures stop moving around. also the export script was set to create a TIFF, and changing that to .PSD stopped the adding of new files to the bottom tab.

Thanks for the help!

Well, OK then, but I'm not sure about the tiff/psd thing! Lightroom at least by default adds a "version", a tiff or a psd, to your Library containing the Photoshop edits, although you can change your preferences around. I don't mind having the version/copy if I'm doing important work in Photoshop...
