Two fox passed through the yard yesterday, only able to grab one by the time I ran for my camera.

Thankyou all for the comments & your time... Was really excited to see the fox so ran for the camera, shot this handheld with the 5d2, 400 & 1.4 extender + pretty tight crop.. ...happy to get something almost acceptable.

Very nice Cheryl...it's going to be a cold winter, look at that coat thickening up! I love seeing foxes, as long as they're not in my yard. I think they'd win the battle with my cat ;)

I think you did very well considering the situation. That's one beautiful coat, thickness and color! My neighbor thinks a coyote grabbed one of his cats. Makes me pretty nervous when my cats insist on going outside. If skunks weren't such a problem, the cats could take my German Shepherd with them as a bodyguard!

Thanks for commenting Ian... the fox looked in excellent health, think he's a young one that was born nearby...hunts here everyday. When I spotted him my neighbours male cat was approx 50 feet in front of him & he could care less, which surprised me, thought he'd go after the cat...but he didn't, not sure why...maybe the mouse population was enough for him :)

Thanks SJC.. I was so excited to get the shot, had to keep saying "just breathe" to steady the camera & try to manual focus, always so exciting when you see wildlife you want to capture. We used to have problems losing cats to fishers (sp???) but they seem to have dissapeared. This year we have plenty of skunks around..but 'ticks' are the worst ever. My cat has had approx 15 ticks in the last month, wonder what next year will bring...
