Paid $314 for the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 II

Congrats on the lens purchase. As long as the rebate was valid during the time you bought the lens, then there should be no problem. The fact that the place you purchased it from was having a sale on the lens, should have no impact on your rebate UNLESS it was some kind of a store rebate, if that is the case, then Houston we may have a problem.

That said, however, I convert all my credit card points into frequent flyer miles, which is pretty awesome for getting into business class. Not sure my credit card has a cash reward program, but I rather suspect if it did the equivalent cash value would probably be poorer than mileage redemption, but I guess YMMV.

I think it has applicability as it's a way to lessen the financial impact when purchasing photography or any other gear, similar to the 20% off coupons, but just no coupon. I don't really care about business class; 1st class that's another story, but not really impressed with that either. Give me my money and I can do with it as I please. That's my motto. Now, as far as hotel points those are golden, especially Hilton Honor and Marriott. Me and family get lots of usage out of those. I don't get much usage from airlines, so the cash was better for me. But, whatever floats your boat.

CC rewards are basically cash. Worth even more than cash if you can use them as miles.

Not if you don't do much or any flying. The rebate program wanted 35k miles for anything travel related that cost between $150 and $350 and 60K for $350 to $600 and a crazy formula after that. I thought that was way too much. I got better use by using it to purchase the lens; it's tangible, I can make some money using it and I see what I got for those reward dollars everyday. I can get cheap flights from Southwest.

Yeah, the rebate is good. I am sending it off today. I got the lens yesterday and tested no clicking, ticking when zooming and very sharp.

Al, you still have my address, so when you get the lens just ship it to me and you will gain another $600 beside the $600 you already saved. It's a win win situation for you

This is what I tell people all the time that travel for work. USE YOUR OWN CREDIT CARD THAT GETS POINTS.

I travel a lot and I was able to get the 70-200 F4L for free ($300 gift cards and CC points).

My honeymoon was practically free to go to Hawaii for 10 days on three islands and all excursions were free.

1st class tickets for me and my wife from Boston to Hawaii - 360,000 miles
Hotels cost next to nothing since I used my hotel points - roughly 220,000 points
Car Rental was like $200 - used 7 free days from the car rental company
Excursions were $2000ish and I used my Credit Card points to pay for those

We pretty paid for food and random attractions we would walk by.

This was all accumulated in a period of about 2.5 years.

credit card points are awesome, if you pay your bill off every month.

It's good but spent a lot of time on the road. About 150 flights last year alone and over 100 nights away from home.

I think the most I have every paid a month was like $11k and I had to explain that to the bank when I was buying my house. TONS of paperwork and receipts.

The most I have accumulated was maybe around 70k and that was mostly when i had to fly international unusually many times or you are the type who always swiping your cc adn racking points.

These days I don't bother with reward points. Certainly nice that its there but I don't purposely go after it. For me, its just too time consuming.

But contrats to you for those who has the descipline to make it happen!

Yep it sure is. That's why I was baffled by the comment. It's no work on your part at all to earn these perks, well other than spend some money, but that's happening anyway.

In a noisy crowded room probably not, but in a quiet room you can hear it...more so you can feel it as it doesn't zoom fluidly like the 70-200 does. Focus ring feels like it should but the zoom ring definitely has something wrong with it.
