I have the 565 and 568ex II.

The 568ex II has some issues, so get the mark I version.

The II can be used as an optical commander, but the battery door breaks and it has a weird thing for bounce flashes.

Hmm the YN-568 version I that I have is also having issues with the battery door. It hasn't broken off yet, but it is sticking out a bit. Seems like the latch isn't strong enough for the batteries pressing against it. Still works for now though...

OK all, so my wife got her YongNuo YN-468 II E-TTL from her awesome father (qtband). Now I wanna get the remote trigger for V-Day (from our new daughter ;) ) and I need some help with choosing one that will work with the camera/flash nicely. Figured I would just keep this thread on the same "build" going.

I see xarqi mentioned the Yonguo 622C and found Amazon has these...

YN-622N (shows i-TTL where as others show E-TTL)
http://www.amazon.com …8-1&keywords=Yongnuo+622C (external link)

YN-622 (picture and link shows 622C, but item listing doesn't say "C")
http://www.amazon.com …8-3&keywords=Yongnuo+622C (external link)

and the YN-622C (picture shows no brand on the item?!)
http://www.amazon.com …&keywords=Yongnuo+yn-622C (external link)

Are these worth the $80 or could a cheaper one work? Unsure how much she will use it honestly, but I could be wrong.

Any help is appreciated!

There are only YN-622N (Nikon) and YN-622C (Canon). Just make sure you get the Canon version.

These units are the cheapest radio triggers that give you ETTL. I think they are a very good deal.

Awesome, thank you!

So this is all I need?
http://www.amazon.com …8-1&keywords=Yongnuo+622C (external link)

Am I a moron? Don't I need a remote part of this to trigger it?

Package included:
2 x RF-622 C transceivers
1 x Instruction in English and Chinese
(Original Manuefacture Package)

Or do you use one of the transceivers to trigger it? -They both look the same to me, which further exacerbates my confusion.

-Again, sorry for the NOOB questions!

Yes, that is what you need. Both units are identical and will work as either a transmitter or receiver. That is why they are called "Transceiver".

One goes on the camera hot-shoe and the other goes on the flash. If you want to add one more flash, you would need to add one more YN-622C unit. They are also available separately for about $40 each.

As a flash novice I'm curious... is there any benefit to having a wireless transceiver for each flash?

Right now I use a wireless remote on one flash and use the other in slave mode and it's worked perfectly for me. When using the X-E1 I just use the pop-up flash in commander mode and use both off camera flashes in slave mode. Does having the setup fully wireless give you more options for HSS or is there more to it?

If the ambient light is too bright, the optical slave and/or IR sensor will have problems detecting the light from the master flash and fail to fire. Optical slaves can also be fooled by flashing lights and fire when you don't want them to: happened to me once when doing a shoot in a warehouse and someone started the forklift: its rotating light was firing my monolight continuously.

I am not familiar with the Fuji X-E1 and it's wireless Slave flash capability.

Are you using ETTL Transceivers? If so, you can have more control of exposure if you have an ETTL transceiver for each flash. You can also set the light output of each flash right from the camera. You also can have HSS with this ETTL wireless systems, but not with simpler slave systems.

With a simple optical slave as you describe, the optical slave will have to be in manual mode and you will have to adjust the power right on the flash itself.

If you are using simple radio triggers there is also less control and you must set the power for each slave flash individually on each flash itself.
