The wife wants to use my camera to shoot podcasts. Often, she will display an item, based on the topic of her podcast, closer to the camera for a clearer view. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't auto focus onto the item as it moves closer. I, nor anyone else, is behind the camera using the controls. She sets it on the tripod and shoots. Therefore, is there a way for auto focus to remain focused on items when they are being moved around within the shoot?

Thank you

I believe the short answer is, unfortunately, NO!

Nope. You need a 70D.

You might be able to minimize the issue by understanding depth of field and taking advantage of its benefits.

Why not shoot the items separately, which would enable proper focusing then edit the clips together with the head talking bit.

Art that takes you there. http://www.artyman.co.uk (external link)

I thought of something. Would it be possible to focus using a remote shutter switch?

I'll suggest that to her.

Thanks

Maybe, and I emphasize maybe, DSLR Controller for Android could be used. Check http://dslrcontroller.com/ (external link).

Focus with DSLR Controller is discussed at http://dslrcontroller.com/guide-rmf_focuspull.php (external link). it doesn't seem to be autofocus as much as it is remote manualmfocus.
