I've been thinking about it for weeks now... and i end up with the same conclusion.

I been thinking of trading my 60D for a Canon G15 (or maybe a G16), the store gives me $522/£323 for the 60D so i can buy the G15 right away.. or put in some more cash for the G16.
I will still hold on to my dear 1Ds (although it's 10 years old it still kicks butt as long as it's light outside/inside) together with my pancake, 50 f/1.4 and the 70-200L. Then i got a pretty decent photographers kit for when i need it, but the rest of the time i have the awesome (imo) little G15.

Am i insane?
Do i need to keep the 60D (i'm a hobby photographer with occasional "jobs" regarding horse people, local rockbands and maybe 1 wedding a year) AND the 1Ds AND a G15?
I feel that it's too much.. but i don't want to trade the 1Ds.. i just can't. It's a 1D for crying out loud!!

I've played around with the G15 and it's a small beast for a compact and with it's extremely tiny sensore compared to APS sensor's.

Anyway... you'r thoughts?

I would keep the 60d. Production will probably stop soon. I picked up on myself a couple months ago. Better off saving for the g16. My 2cents

What do you mean... it will become rare?

A while back i thought about trading in my old 30d/nifty 250 for a canon/panny/nikon bridge camera for convenience and lens mag.

If you have one and you aren't starving for money, I would just keep it.

Get an EOS M, it's a great backup. God forbid your 1DS goes down but if you ever do a paid shoot you have to have a backup capable capable, the M kicks butt in those situations versus a point and shoot.

They're going dirt cheap nowadays, $400 for the body, two lenses and a flash.

The M body is as small as a point and shoot and with the pancake 22 lens you'll have no trouble carrying it in a coat pocket.

I need viewfinder.. no matter how crappy the g15/16 is. I hate shooting on an armslength.

I say just keep it :P. It is always nice to have a second body, even if it is for a hobby. If I were to ever go out somewhere to take pictures (as a hobby) and my camera died... I would be extremely aggravated that I drove all that way and now I couldnt even get pictures.

I have a viewfinder on my M, but for video work

Really hope they add one in M2, but I don't miss it at all honestly. Only take a couple of days to get used to it, less if you're used to using a modern cellphone.

Isn't the G16 much faster than the G15? I have a G12 and I loved it for the years I shot it exclusively.... except for the shutter lag. The G16 addresses that problem, from what I understand.

I added the 60D after shooting the G12 for almost two years. I keep meaning to rekindle my fondness for the G12 but so far, no luck. ;)

With the 70D having been out for a few weeks now, it will only be a matter of time before they stop manufacturing new 60D bodies.

For the type of photography that you do that you've posted here on POTN and over on flickr, I suppose you could get away with a G series powershot and some clever shooting. But honestly I think that overtime you would be better off and less hassled by just continuing to enjoy the 60D anyways... so definitely not insane, but maybe a little barking mad ;) :)

I wouldn't get a G series if I wanted a smaller camera. They're still too big for pocket size, so you still need to carry a bag around. And if you don't mind carrying a bag around, then you can easily fit a m4/3 body in there which will give you much nicer results. Personally I'd go for the OM-D. Granted, the lens will be bulkier than the g15, and it is more expensive, but the whole user experience and the results speak for themselves.

More or less what Tom says, above. I have nothing but fond memories of my Gs (1, 7, 9); but trying to go back to one of those after having gotten used to the images from my SLRs has been nothing but a disappointment on the occasions that I've tried it.

OP have you actually looked thru the viewfinder of G15/G16 before?

It's beyond un-usable, absolute garbage!

I wish Canon has never fitted one in in the first place...

Unless you are a hardcore Canon fanboy, there are many similar cameras out there that are better than the G series by miles, x20, lx7, xz 2 and rx100/II just to name a few.
