Hello,

I have a 7d and a 6d and a 70-200f2.8 , I'm looking for a lens that will compliment both of these bodies, preferably f2.8 or faster, I currently have a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 but it isn't compatible with Full frame. I've been playing around with a nifty 50 and it is good on the 6d when I'm at a rugby game but not wide enough when I need to get group photos.

What are my best options?
I would love a 24-70f2.8 but I don't have that kind of cash

I shoot mostly sport but I also shoot the odd event and a whole lot of my family.

You have several alternatives...

Pick up a used first version of the Canon 24-70/2.8. The Mark II is great, but the prior version is still an excellent lens too. It's still possible to find new copies of the original 24-70, at roughly $500 less than the Mark II.

Or get one of the third party 24-70/2.8s. There is the Sigma that's about $1500 less than the Canon. Or the Tamron with VC and USD (their version of IS and USM), for about $1000 less than the Canon Mark II.

Other than that, you are looking at an f4 or variable aperture lens.

Just out of curiosity, why does it have to compliment both bodies? If you have the 17-50mm for the crop body then find something that would be perfect on at 6D and keep both?

If a second hand 24-70mm f/2.8 is too pricey then you may be looking at a 24-105mm f/4 IS instead. They're just on $1000 for a new one at the moment, cheaper if you want to go second hand.

In saying that, 24mm on your 6D is going to be about the same as 17mm on the crop so possibly look for a 17-40mm for the 6D? You'd be going 16-35mm if you want faster, but the price goes up a fair bit at the same time.

Thanks guys,
I will look into the non Canon 24-70s, I would love to test one out before buying but that's a bit hard where I live

the reason I want a lens that works well on both bodies is that I will probably sell the 17-50 tammy, the autofocus is too slow for any action photography. also if I go out with my family I would like to take one body 2 lenses - 6d, 70-200 and (new lens)
but when I go to sport I like to use the 70-200 on the 7d for more reach and then (new lens) 6d

I hope that makes sense

Considered a 30/35mm f/1.4? Or wanting a bit more flexibility?
