Strobeless, sadly. I unfortunately left all my stands in Chicago at school last weekend while I was home and shot this.

very cool.

I'm curious what it would have looked like had you been closer to the wall, maybe shooting over the barrier-thing, using it as an OOF element in the foreground.

As a skateboarder, when you see a skate photo you want to be able to see where they're coming from and where they're going to land and I tried that angle but I couldn't see either.

I'd have liked to see it shot telephoto, having the subject land in the left third of the frame. This spot looks so sick though.

ah, gotcha. I've done a bit of skate photography, so I understand the basics of it, I was kinda just thinking out loud/rambling to myself

I also like the feel and color it very Agfa-ish IMO. And I also think it is too wide, the wide-angle rule for action sports is over played. You could crop this buy 20% and it would still be wide. Does it add or subtract value to image?

doesn't do it for me
shooting wide doesn't add anything here, if you want to shoot wide like this make sure you have a reason why, like a cool spot or surroundings that make the shot different etc.If not, shoot it tighter/get closer. The centered comp of the skater doesn't help either

Jack,

I'm sorry, but it's not quite doing anything for me either. (Only giving constructive criticism in hopes of helping.)

I agree with Sklar, the wide angle shot isn't adding anything to this particular image. My eye is drawn immediately from the skater to the pipes on the right-hand side of the image. There is a lot of potential there with great leading lines, shapes, textures, and tones to work with, so you definitely have a good eye for picking out a location...I just think the composition needs to be tweaked a little bit for an even better image.

Bryan
