I know this has probably been talked to death, but need
info on Extension tubes, Canon or Kenko, no cheapies.
Just need some advice for occasional use for insects/flowers, etc.

You'll see my gear list and may use an occasional efs lens from time
to time. Depending on what I decide I need I'll put in an add for one
or a set.

thanks,
lyn

What is wrong with cheapies? You can spend a few hundred on the 12 and 25mm Canon ones and they are excellent but my 3 cheapies cost half what 1 canon one cost and work perfectly. The 13 and 21mm ones are almost permanent attachments on my Canon 800mm F5.6 when I am after small birds. Why would you want to spend more?

Personal Preference. And really, this question coming from someone that owns a Canon 800mm?

I specified the need for tubes that I can use for insects/flowers and I also mentioned that I have my gear list visible so that someone with real experience could direct me in the tubes that I might have use of.

So the fact that you have a Canon 800mm lens and use 13 and 21mm tubes for birds is of no use to me at all.

Although I'm not a fan of the way you responded to johnf3f's response....

The Canon and Kenko's are metal. The others are plastic. Plastic can break, and there are threads from users of the cheapies that have had that happen. As far as between the two, because really all it is is a tube with no elements, I see no reason to spend more then necessary. Go with the Kenkos. If optics were involved, my answer may be different.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

I went with a 3 piece set that was branded Polaroid they have electrical contacts and metal mounts, $59 on eBay, extension tubes are just spacers.

For reference my cheapies have metal mounts and are well made. I do also use them on other lenses from 24mm upwards. I was merely trying to show that my tubes are of a quality to allow their use on any Canon product and as 2 sets of 3 are less than 1 Canon. I didn't want you to waste your money on overpriced products that are no better in practice and offer less flexibility.

Well I won't make that mistake again!
