camera gear recovery?

is there a website data base to register your camera and other equpiment , If something get stolen, reclaimed, or just to keep track of your stuff?

There are a couple out there although I dodn't know how relaible this concept might be. The best thing is to make sure you have copies of all the serial numbers for the police recovery effort. You will also need this to "register" the equipment and possibly for the insurance company.

There is also a site (http://www.stolencamer​afinder.com/ (external link)) where you can input the camera body S/N and it will search all the popular sites for images with that S/N in the EXIF. Again, not too sure how reliable this might be. It depends on some "future" user of your camera, however acquired, posting an image with EXIF attached. There are a ton of people who don't even know about the EXIF info so this might be a viable option. Having said that I'm a member of a camera club and regularly post images competitively and none are found by the site.
