I didn't know where else to post this query. I've never owned or used a spotting scope, but as an aspiring birder I think a scope would go well to backup binocular sightings. I have a chance to buy this one from a birder down state for the reasonable price of $150 with the case. It has had very little use. The seller just sent me this photo of his unit.

Kowa TSN-2, 20-60mm zoom

This seems like it would be a decent starter scope for the price. Have any of you used this model, and how did you like it for your needs?

Thank you for any thoughts and considerations.

Regards,

Jonathan

I used to use this scope. It's an old one but it was a good one. The price is good so check it out make sure it functions properly and there are no scratches on the glass and no fungus inside. If it checks out ok then go for it. It's no Swarovski but it's also about $2300 less than one. You'll enjoy using it.

Regards,
Chuck

You might also ask in (and/or search) the spotting scope subforum at http://www.birdforum.net/ (external link), it is a high traffic site with many knowledgeable users (and as an aspiring birder you will find MUCH there to explore).

Chuck, Thank you for that endorsement as a user. I knew it was an older unit, but I don't know how old. The owner assured me it was in E+ condition.

Walter, Thank you. I'll check out that site.
