Lets build a budget PC

I'm tired of this ancient PC so it's time for a budgeted build, heck anything is faster than this Athlon 64x2 4600+ lol.

I don't game to much any more so OC' is not really needed. I just want stability and better speed to load Photoshop and all the plugins plus Lr and maybe do some music editing.

So lets keep it as far under 900.00 as we can...anyone up for the challenge? If you provide links to where you found the prices etc. it would be awesome!

I might go for a better brand of power supply, and definitely a SSD for OS/cache. Black drives are faster than blue, which would be better for photography.

Yup, what Tim said. Get a good high quality PSU and a SSD.

and I love it. I'd go for a different motherboard, and a larger SSD, but i've been happy with everything else. I run Arkham Origins at full resolution on my 19" monitor with no drop in performance.

The 300 Watt Power Supply probably won't cut it imho.

Throw in (at least) a 128 GB SSD + Windows OS license and you're already over $800. If you want speed for the OS and Lightroom, you gotta pay for it.

Start with an Ivy Bridge with HD4000 gpu chipset and logic board. No need for graphics card. Spend the money on cpu and SSD/HD. That should easily be less than $900 for a quad-core i7 system.

I'm just not sold on the solid state drives so I'll probably go for a Western Digital black.
Either way it will be 10x faster than what I'm using now.

Why not? SSD is definitely the way to go for the OS / Applications.

If you want a really fast PC then an SSD really really helps with that. It helps boot time (which isn't that important but is nice), helps the PC feel more responsive, but putting a cache or catalog on it really helps.
