Looks like a toilet or a pedastel sink. I've been thinking of trying to make one.

Can't wait to see what reasons are going to be put forward to make this one better than the LSII "Portraitist", the "Photojournalist", and the "Photojournalist with dome". Trust Gary to find some good reasons...:)

It looks like Gary had some LSII Portraits left over so he remanufactured them into this new unit. The man is clever, I'll give him that. I like my LSII - it works OK.

DocFrankenstein - don't use it for birdseed. The squirrels chew on it and ruin the fit. I expect to see Ron Lacey with some nature photos around this thing.

So, it's different from LS II PJ which is clear? I have LS II PJ with inverted/internal dome. Supposedly, the dome is needed only for outdoor fill-in. I'm very happy with mine.

This one is translucent and has a dome, it is also pliable like the PJII. The thought is that the translucent plastic will soften the light more. I saw Gary shoot with it last night, the images looked nice. I was planning to pick up a LS PJ2 with a dome to replace my tiny lumiquest diffuser. I will post some pics when I get a chance to play with it.

You can get nicely diffused/soft flash without one of those peanut dishes. All you need to do is learn where to bounce your flash. UP isn't the only answer.

Behind me, into the corner where the wall and ceiling meet:

Over my left shoulder again:

I had no add-ons stuck to my flash unit for any of these shots, and the flash was the primary light source.

I have seen the results of the Lightshhere and really don't see what all the hype is about. I have diffusers, bouncers, et that do as well or better and cost a lot less.

That's cool.... You get to have a salad to munch on from the bowl while taking pictures of the crowd. They really need a lid for it, though.

When I first heard about and bought the Lightsphere I thought it was great. It seemed to work well and produce pleasing results.

But now he keeps "improving" his designs, while claiming that each new version is better than the last...but the last one was the best!

I lost my respect for Gary Fong as an innovative photographer when he came out with the PJ without a dome, charged extra for that dome, then started selling them together. Now that he has yet another new salad bowl, my opinion of him as being no more than a profiteer is reinforced.

Well canon made huge improvements between the 300D and the 350D and the price didnt go up. Do we slam on them for being "Profiteers"

I have the lightsphere II with the original dome. The thing works as advertized but with short lenses using it as direct flash outside with the dome it creates flare because the dome is out in front of the lens. I think the reversed dome would be a huge improvement due to it shortening up the defuser. I just wish he would offer a reversed dome for the original lightsphere II, Id pay $10 for it.

Every manufacturer improved their products all the time, you should be use to it by now.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I tend to agree with you, and your photos demonstrate it well.

Can't blame Gary for constantly improving his product. I've learned to wait a few weeks, even months after product announcement because there are occasional "specials" that discount the products, as well a riding over one product hype or two before buying, if at all. Hey, maybe I can find some kind of material to transform my LSII Portraitist into a cloudy Lightsphere, and get the same result.
