These are a few Black and White photographs from an aborted housing development on the Northern edge of Madrid where they had built most of the street infrastructure, lights, benches, parks and everything, but the development was postponed (I think, due to being protected and maintained to avoid disrepair in case it can be finished) when the property bubble burst and the recession started.

These images project a very odd polarity; newness vs abandonment. Not something you see in everyday life very often, especially in such close proximity to a large population. Because of this, and despite the bright, sunny day when you captured the images, the storyline of your series becomes rather eerie and mysterious.

Sorry for the tardy response to your comment, Ken - I'd rather forgotten about this thread but it's really nice of you to have taken the time to look and comment as you have, so I thank you.

It's an area that I'd seen whilst cycling out of the city and decided to go and photograph - you mention the sunny day, that may not have been the ideal condition for photographing it, but it perhaps augments that opposition between newness and abandonment that you mention, and was what intrigued me about the location - something abandoned before having even been completed. The peculiar newness might not be so apparent in photographs taken on a cloudy and gloomy day which would show more of the abandonment, something quite commonly photographed now, which is not to so it is without value.

This wasn't a critical decision in deciding when to shoot - I had the camera on me and an afternoon free so I went up there and did the shoot while it was on my mind and before too much changed.
