Would there be that big of a difference in the 6D IQ to justify the expense? I am happy with my 7D, but wonder if I am missing something by not going 6D.

Yes! Better noise performance and color retention (especially at higher ISOs).
Shadows are improved but still nowhere near Sony sensor levels.

But it depends on what kind of conditions you shoot in... If your scene is well and evenly lit then you might not notice that much of a difference... For shots at night it makes a huge difference, and in any scene with a large DR.

Well you already have the best glass for a crop, only a body change will improve your IQ now. For me, I'm waiting on the new A7r from Sony :D

The 6D will give much better image performance, especially if you are talking about landscape work, but keep in mind it is not compatible with EF-S lenses like your 10-22. If you are still interested in action work, the 7D is better for fps speed.

As good as the 10-22 is, I would experiment (if you haven't already) on some landscapes with the 7D on a tripod with a low ISO. Use a remote shutter release and the mirror lock-up feature as well. That will give you a clear image regardless of the shutter speed. Then if you aren't happy with the IQ, a move to the 6D with an EF lens like the 17-40 would be a nice step.

If the 7D is not limiting you, why change?
If you did, you'd need to be spending even more to get suitable lenses for the new format too, especially if you want to go wider than the 24-105 (the default "kit" lens for the 6D).

My suggestion though, is that you consider renting a 6D (and lenses) for a week and see if, for you, there is a significant improvement to be had.

don't forget you can get your 10-22 on a 6d (with a small modification), i have seen some spectacular results that way. Look up posts by "Nchant" he has some awsome shots with the 6d and 10-22.

What's the risk of a mirror collision is too wide a FL is accidentally selected?

pretty sure it is safe to use from 16-22mm. which is as wide as any full frame uwa

IMO if you are happy with the 7D, you may not see that much of a difference going to a 6D. It's not like you're suddenly going to get a new level of landscape brilliance.

When people list a bunch of things they are not happy with and which a FF is going to improve, then I would recommend a switch.

Re use of 10-22 on FF:
Fair enough. I'm reminded of that scene from Ghostbusters though:

Dr. Egon Spengler: There’s something very important I forgot to tell you.
Dr. Peter Venkman: What?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Don’t cross the streams.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Why?
Dr. Egon Spengler: It would be bad.
Dr. Peter Venkman: I’m fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean, “bad”?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Dr. Ray Stantz: Total protonic reversal.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Right. That’s bad. Okay. All right. Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon.

Myself, I'm more comfortable with gear that won't break no matter what operational blunder I make.
