bw!So true. It reminds me of a concept in psychology called the "the narcissism of small differences." Freud observed that people with minor differences between them are often more hostile towards each other than people with major differences. So, it seems some folks over-dentify with a camera and then wildly exaggerate small performance differences between them.

That's interesting. Seems it's easier to prove one is better than another when they're close in competition. But when there's too much of a difference, they don't even bother. Don't really see owners of a new Ferrari fighting with the mazdas. The new ZL1 Camaro vs the new Boss 302 on the other hand...

Yeah, exactly, you don't hear people pounding their chests about how the 1DX "smokes" the T5i.

Nikon spelled backwards is Nokin (pronounced "knock-ing"). Ignore them.

I have belonged to a large camera club for many years and have judged hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs. I feel I have a pretty keen eye, but I still cannot tell the difference between a good picture taken with a Canon vs Nikon camera/lens. But I can tell the difference between a good and not so good photographer regardless of their preferred equipment brand. Believe me, good picture taking is not brand specific.

I think so, but the whole thing with DXO is somehow the catalyst of these war, if DXO were having different results about Canon being at the bottom of DR results or near the botton, it would help, i think Canon are aware of that.
Apart from this little issue that we don,t really see, the nikon and other basher would stop that silly war.
War of words

Yea, DPreview community is pretty bad. They don't just bash Canon, people get mad at each other about anything that comes out. I bet they'd even have flame wars if DPreview announced a new series of Panasonic batteries. Kind of the same internet mindset as youtube comments, pretty sad really.
I'm glad POTN tends to have a more constructive attitude.

EDIT: a simulation, just for kicks

A: Wow, new batteries, seriously? thats what we were all waiting for
B: that's*
C: At least they're bringing out more new stuff than Canikon
A: Yea, C, because their mirrorless attempts totally suck with their tiny sensors and B, you're a no life grammar ****
C: A, I looked at your photos taken with your huge sensor and they still suck

Followed by a heated discussion about how America, no France, no England, no Germany invented the battery.

I think that if I joined the DPreview community they could tell me if "anal retentive" is to be spelled with a hyphen or without. ;)

I think maybe they are a little jealous. The 70D trashes the 7100 in video AF, it has a wider spread of cross type points in OVF AF...and wifi, articulated touchscreen..

DXO is all lab tests and I think it is tuned to not favor Canon. It has nothing to do with the camera as a tool and the other features and controls.

I also find it funny when the Nikon fanboys get crazy - their company does not even make the sensors they brag about.

You guys are commenting about typical behavior seen in many places on the Internet. Flame wars, juvenile rants, childish retorts, "My daddy is bigger than your daddy". And "the size of my car's engine and my longest lens is a direct reflection on the size of my manhood."
It's all the reason that I belong to POTN, and not to most other photographic discussion groups on the internet!

Even worse are the comments on DP Review...they seem mostly to be 160 character one liner Twitter comments that the kids post.

+1...POTN is one of the best communities on the internet. We all get passionate about our enjoyment of photography, but I don't know another places where within 10 minutes of posting a question you will have at least one if not several replies helping you out, no matter your experience level.

Yes this bashing was the reason I quickly left DPreview. I can post a pic here and not get chewed up. I can ask for criticism and construct and get heaps of it but always with a gentle hand. Just glad most here try to keep it that way.
Excellent point about the photographer versus the equipment and also the point made about this bashing of small differences being a 1st world problem, you now that could change soon :(
