Hi everyone, I'm new here!

Not been into, (serious) photography long, but I'm very much enjoying the steep learning curve and trying out a LOT of different styles and techniques to find what suites me!

Thought I'd start by posting two of my favorite images - very different - to gauge what you guys think?

I shoot with a Canon 600D and have two lenses, the 60mm Macro f2.8 that doubles as a great portrait lens, (in the right hands!) and I recently replaced the kit lens with a 17-55 f2.8 IS USM that I'm enjoying using, but still getting to grips with.

Both of these were taken with the 60mm macro prior to the 17-55 purchase!

1. Waiting, not entirely patiently...

1/80 F/6.3 ISO100 60mm

I think my wife was getting a bit fed up of my constant snapping at this point and her expression says it all... To be fair she is very supportive usually!

2. Springer running...

I love my two Springers and took this during my first attempt at panning - made some newbie errors, but was pleased with the overall result.

I have edited both in LR5, (getting Lightroom was a real eye opener for me!) but still trying to understand all the functionality of that process...

I'd love to hear any comment, criticism or suggestion on improvement - I'm here to learn and welcome good, bad or indifferent responses - I will not be throwing any toys around.

Thanks in advance for any reply...

Rob

I like the pan shot, it could be sharper, but still a nice shot as is. If you cropped this image, I would suggest leaving more space in front of the dog for it to "move" into. The current crop feels restrained. If it is not cropped, try to leave more space in the direction the subject is moving when shooting this type of shot.

You've probably already caught hell for #1, so I'll just comment on the Springer. ; D
Love the shot! But I'd crop off some from the top & left side.

#1 - I know the expression well. That is what a photographer's wife looks like.

#2 - Nice shot and I agree with the other crop comments.

No, I never claimed to be outstanding in the field of photography. I said I was out standing in the field taking photos.

Thanks guys.

I've already cropped, in the original she was well up to the top right of frame with no more room in front than you see - my panning technique needs refining somewhat!

Taken your advice on the crop though and had another fiddle with it:

Definitely better thanks...

This dog will run for England, so there should be plenty of opportunity to try again, sadly though our clocks just went back and there is no more after work light... :(

I like number one - has more of a story to it, albeit not a good one :)
